Isn’t it interesting…

That my last post on here was a flippant declaration of my stance on style over baby-proofing?

Well…

this happened.

And my beautiful mirrored coffee table was banished to the basement and we replaced it with little stools that are covered in fabric, have rounded edges and won’t kill my baby. They are chevron. They are from Home Goods. Obvi.

And then, I saw this:

West Elm's Faux Mongolian Lamb Pouf.

West Elm’s Faux Mongolian Lamb Pouf.

And I decided that I needed my living room back.

Yes, it is where we as a family spend most of our time, and the mom in me loves days that are spent, all four of us occupied by books and toys and games…

but the decorator in me was sick of looking at toddler-sized trains and mini Fisher Price Houses.

And so I made a decision. We have this sunroom; this great enclosed space with French doors. And because our pottery barn table and chairs were ruined in the flood, I decided to make this our downstairs playroom of sorts.

Which means

that my living room

is mine again.

And that I have a pouf.

Pillow Talk

A friend of mine came to me with a question about her Master Bedroom;

She is not yet ready to completely re-do the space, but wants to do a few little things to spruce it up and make it feel more hers.

She recently ordered this awesome bedding from Kohls which is super chic.

Screen Shot 2014-06-24 at 10.54.34 AMIn trying to add a little somethin something, she ordered this fabulous pillow from Etsy, which I love. I think it will really pop in the room and with the bedding.

Screen Shot 2014-06-24 at 10.55.09 AMShe asked me about this other Etsy pillow in lumbar shape, and I had to be honest; it wasn’t my favorite. And she agreed.

Screen Shot 2014-06-24 at 10.55.24 AMIt’s a great pillow, just not right for what she is looking to accomplish.

Since it has been my mecca for pillows, I pointed her in the direction of West Elm, as all of their pillows ship for free.

I found a few that I thought could work for her.

Screen Shot 2014-06-24 at 10.57.30 AM Screen Shot 2014-06-24 at 10.56.26 AMJC Penny’s Jonathan Adler Happy Chic is doing a whole story right now on Aqua, so I thought she might find something there.

Screen Shot 2014-06-24 at 11.06.52 AMI don’t mind mixing shades of aqua and gray, there are some nice sales.

Finally, I checked out CB2, Crate and Barrel’s more modern (and affordable) line, where I have found some awesome throws for more modern spaces.

I found some pillows that were awesome, but a little out there:

Which is why this last pillow is my favorite. I’d put the one she bought from Etsy in the middle and have one of these on either side, making it super crisp and clean. A calm oasis for two busy parents with two busy kids.

I wish I could do a little bit more wish listing, but it’s past 9pm, so far past my bedtime.

Oh well, there’s always tomorrow.

My happy place.

As I have said for some time now (my husband would probably categorize it as “forever”), I am eager (desperately eager) to finish our basement. I don’t know if it’s the fact that my son is now mobile, and that my living room with the sharp mirrored coffee table and crystal bowl of shiny balls no longer seems ideal; or it may be that I literally have no more room in my house to hang another thing, and there’s nothing left to decorate. Whatever the case may be, it is something I spend a lot of time thinking about. Because although I adore our Living Room so, it is an adult space. And it is now an adult space with discreet baskets of toys. And I want my toys somewhere else.
I want a happy place. A place in which my children can totally romp around (without supervision as time goes out) and mess things up, and I won’t care. By the way, I will still care, but at least you won’t see the mess the second you set foot in the house.
So tonight I got design happy and went online to lose myself, creating a room, not for my home, but just a cool, different room, with colors that I would likely not use myself, but that I think looks kind of cool. Because sometimes Polyvore is my happy place.

And now I got to scratch my decorating itch in a way that is fun and fantastical and the best part is, I can do it again tomorrow.
Sleep tight, dreamers.
